Application and Selection Procedures for Associate Ombudsperson

  1. A student planning to apply for the Associate Ombudsperson position MUST indicate preliminary interest by April 18, 2008 by sending an email to mrhammond@uchicago.edu stating that you plan to apply.  This advance indication will allow us to determine the number of interested candidates and plan for the selection process in a systematic, efficient way.  There are no exceptions to this deadline.
     
  2. Completed applications are due to the Office of the Vice President and Dean of Students, Room 227 of the Administration Building no later than April 28, 2008.  The application must include:
     
    • A letter from the applicant with the following information:
      • Applicant’s academic areas
      • Matriculation status
      • Number of years at the University
      • Relevant experience and qualifications for the position
      • Motivation for applying
      • Phone number and email address
         
    • Applicant’s resume or Curriculum Vitae.
       
    • Two letters of recommendation, professional and/or personal, from individuals who can comment on the student’s qualifications for the position.  To get a recommendation form, click on the link at the bottom of the page.
       
  3. Any applicant may choose to meet informally with the current Ombudsperson to discuss the position. Please contact the Office of the Ombudsperson at ombudsperson@uchicago.edu or 702-8422 to set up an appointment.
     
  4. A first-round interview may be requested to supplement the written materials.
     
  5. A selection committee comprised of students, faculty, and administrators will interview finalists and submit recommendations to the President for consideration.
     
  6. The President of the University will make the appointment.
